We´re asked that question quite often.
Just recently, as a matter of fact, by a 68 year old woman who was looking forward to the birth of her first grandchild and wanted to use the joyous occasion to change her appearance.

With this patient, the bone of her periodontal (tooth-anchoring) apparatus was weakened, which is to be expected at her age. The dentist had therefore recommended putting crowns on all of her front teeth.
Since her oral hygiene and consequently her gums were in order, we decided, as was the patient´s wish, in favor of orthodontic treatment with subsequent long-term retention. After just 14 months, we were able to conclude treatment to the patient´s fullest satisfaction, who in the meantime had become a happy grandmother.
As this example shows, treatment is possible at almost any age provided it is founded on good professional knowledge and always individually planned.

Due to the joyous occasion soon coming up, we treated our 68 year old patient with the ultra-fast Damon 3 bracket system.
This world´s fastest and at the same time most beautiful bracket system is suitable for all patients who want to see first results after just 3 months and want a total treatment time of on average only 14 months.

We use this system for our young stars who are actors in youths´ series TV productions and are not permitted to wear braces.
This removable form of therapy is also very popular with people who work in the restaurant and catering trade.
Patients can, for example, hold a lecture while wearing the aligners without the audience noticing any speech impediment.
The tooth movements achievable with removable aligners, however, are not suitable for correcting all forms of misalignment.

As the photo shows, Lingual treatment is the invisible method of straightening the teeth.
The space for the tongue, however, is restricted by the brackets bonded to the backsides of the teeth so that speech may be impeded. Over the course of treatment, the patient´s tongue will get used to the braces and normal speech will return.
To shorten the period of awkward speech, the patient can practice with a speech tray before treatment begins.
Certain tooth movements are more difficult to achieve with Lingual braces than with braces bonded to the front of the teeth.

Regardless of the treatment method you prefer, today it´s no longer a problem to have your teeth straightened as an adult.
